Languages-school students in the Bachaloria: which language will you study in?

The ministry confirmed in September 2026 that languages-school students may still answer in Arabic. What that means for how you study maths and science.

The question asked every week

"I'm at a languages school and I study Math and Science in English — what happens under the Bachaloria?"

What the ministry actually said

  • Arabisation continues. On 1 September 2026 the ministry confirmed that languages-school students keep the arrangement they have in general secondary: they may study and sit the tests in Arabic.
  • Spokesman Shady Zalata repeated on 2 September 2026: arabisation continues as it is, and a languages-school student who wants to answer in Arabic may carry on doing so. He also denied the rumour that integrated science had been dropped.
  • The ministry denied reports that arabisation of languages-school exams had been cancelled.
  • In general secondary, the paper for translated subjects comes in the foreign language with the Arabic translation beside it, the student answers in either, and the form has a field called "exam language".

What is still not settled

The language of teaching maths and science in languages schools: in May 2026 the minister said the Japanese maths and science curricula would be taught in Arabic in government schools and in the foreign language in languages schools, and that learning outcomes would be identical either way.

But no published decision yet sets the language of the exam for maths and integrated science under the Bachaloria specifically. If someone tells you otherwise, ask for the source.

So how do you study?

  1. Learn the term in both languages. Write it twice in your notebook: Derivative / المشتقة. That covers whatever the paper looks like.
  2. The understanding is the same in both. The equation does not change when the words do.
  3. Practise essay answers in Arabic if you intend to answer in Arabic.
  4. Ask your school in writing: which paper you will sit, and which answer language is allowed.

On GoBachaloria: both versions exist

When you sign up we ask whether your school is languages or Arabic, and show you your version:

Subjects with only one version — Arabic, history, philosophy — are the same for everyone. You can change your answer later from your own page.
