Bachaloria exams: two sittings a year, and your best mark counts

In the Egyptian Bachaloria the exam is not a single chance. Second year: May and July. Third year: June and August. The first sitting is free, the second optional, and the higher mark goes into your total.

The short answer

  • Second year: the first sitting is in May, the second in July.
  • Third year: the first sitting is in June, the second in August.
  • The first sitting is compulsory and free. The second is optional, with a fee of 200 EGP per subject.
  • The higher mark of the two is the one that counts.

What does "the best counts" mean?

If you score 75 in Physics in May, sit again in July and score 88, you get 88. If July goes worse, you keep the 75. You lose nothing by trying again.

When should you sit the second time?

  • When you are sure you can improve: you have studied what went wrong and won't repeat it.
  • In one or two subjects, not all of them. Each costs 200 EGP, and your time in July is limited.
  • Focus on the subject that matters for your faculty.
