Where is Maths in the Bachaloria?
- First year: a core subject for everyone.
- Second year: an optional specialised subject on the Medicine and Life Sciences track only (instead of Physics).
- Third year:
- Engineering: Maths (advanced).
- Business: Maths.
- Arts: no Maths, but Statistics, which is a numbers subject.
The gap to watch out for
Engineering students do not study Maths in the second year. Their second-year specialised subject is Chemistry or Programming, and then they meet advanced Maths straight away in the third year. The same goes for Business students: third-year Maths with none in the second year.
So what should you do?
- Know where it sits on your track before choosing. The four tracks
- If you will meet it in the third year at an advanced level without studying it in the second, revise its basics yourself during the second year, even an hour a week.
- If it is your second-year specialised subject, that is 100 marks. Keep up week by week.
