The short answer
Programming & AI in the second Bachaloria year is a specialised subject on the Engineering and Computer Science track, chosen instead of Chemistry. It has seven units in two parts, is taught six lessons a week, and its mark out of 100 counts towards the 600 total.
The units in order
Part one
- Unit 1: Information Technology and Society. how technology developed, how AI works, its uses and its ethics.
- Unit 2: Cybersecurity. encryption and authentication, network security, and incident response. Explainer
- Unit 3: Web Applications. structure, communication, and the frontend. Explainer
- Unit 4: Web Design and Media. media, user experience, and evaluating websites.
Part two
- Unit 5: Data Collection and Cleaning. collection methods, cleaning and transforming, open data and APIs.
- Unit 6: Analysis and Communication. statistical inference, regression, and presenting data visually.
- Unit 7: Machine Learning and AI. the fundamentals, neural networks, and large language models and generative AI.
Both parts, and where to download them, are in our textbook guide.
What makes this curriculum different?
- It is not only code: it covers security, design, data, statistics and AI. Students who understand the ideas will do better than those who memorise.
- Part two has statistics: inference and regression need you to be comfortable with numbers. If Maths is not your strength, start early.
- It ends at the newest thing in the field: large language models, like ChatGPT.
What does the exam look like?
The ministry's decision for the second Bachaloria year from 2026/27:
- 50% multiple-choice and 50% essay questions. You must be able to write the idea in your own words, not just pick an answer.
- Two sittings a year (May and July), and your best mark is the one that counts.
- You must complete 60% of the weekly and monthly assessments to sit the exam.
Where to start
- Download the book from the official source.
- Keep up with each unit as it comes. Six lessons a week is a lot to catch up on.
- Watch Eng. Ahmed Tarek on the subject page, in the same unit order; his first five videos are free.
