The year on paper
- School starts: Saturday 12 September 2026 for government, official and private schools (Sunday 13 September for schools that do not work Saturdays).
- Weekly assessments: began Sunday 20 September 2026.
- First-term exams: 9 – 14 January 2027.
- Mid-year holiday: 23 January – 4 February 2027; the second term starts 6 February.
- Second-term exams: 22 – 27 May 2027.
- End of year: Thursday 24 June 2027 — a 39-week school year.
Why the weekly plan matters most this year
Because 70% of every subject's mark is classwork: behaviour and attendance, notebook and homework, the weekly assessment, and two monthly tests. The mark breakdown
A student who works week by week has banked most of the mark before the exam. A student who leaves it is chasing 30%.
A model week
- The day after each class: fifteen minutes reviewing it — not memorising, checking you understood.
- Homework the same day. It is 15% of the mark by itself.
- One day for the heavy three: maths, integrated science and English. These are the ones that pile up.
- End of the week: an hour on the weekly assessment.
- A week before a monthly test: solve questions, don't re-read.
Across the year
- September to November: building. Fall behind here and the term follows you.
- December: first revision and past papers.
- January: first-term exams, then a real holiday.
- February to April: second term, same rhythm.
- May: exams.

Where to put the effort
The six subjects that count in first year: Arabic, first foreign language, history, maths, integrated science, philosophy and logic. There are also subjects outside the total you still have to pass. Study them or skip them?
