Is second-year Bachaloria Programming hard? An honest answer

The honest answer

Neither easy nor impossible. It is different. Students who understand find it comfortable; students who memorise struggle. And anyone telling you it is "really easy" or "really hard" has probably not seen an exam yet: this is its first year in the second Bachaloria year.

What makes it easier?

It is not completely new to you: you met programming basics, information security, networks and generative AI in first secondary.
Ideas from your own life: Wi-Fi, passwords, websites, ChatGPT. Things you use every day.
It weighs the same as Chemistry: 100 of 600, with no more pressure on it than any other subject.
Two exam sittings: May and July, and your best mark counts.

What makes it harder?

Six lessons a week: a lot of material, and hard work if it piles up.
Part two has statistics: statistical inference and regression need you to be comfortable with numbers.
Half the exam is essay questions: 50% multiple-choice and 50% essay. You must write the idea in your own words.
No past papers: this is the first cohort, so there are few models to practise on.
Assessments: you must complete 60% of the weekly and monthly assessments to sit the exam.

How to get it on your side

Keep up week by week. With six lessons a week, one week behind makes a difference.
Explain it in your own words. After each lesson, write the idea in three lines. That is exactly what the essay half of the exam will ask of you.
Do, don't just watch. Encrypt a word, open a page and look at its HTML, try ChatGPT and see where it goes wrong.
Start statistics early. If Maths is not your strength, don't wait for the second term.
