The short answer
On the Arts and Humanities track, you choose one specialised subject in the second year: Psychology or a second foreign language. Both are out of 100 and count towards the 600 total with the same weight, so by the rules neither is "better for the total". The difference is which one you will do better in.
Important: neither carries on into the third year
In the third year, the Arts and Humanities track's subjects are advanced Geography and Statistics. So your second-year choice affects 100 marks, not two years.
Choose Psychology if
- You like understanding people: why they behave as they do, how they learn and feel.
- You can explain an idea with an everyday example, which is half the marks on the essay side.
- You are thinking of Education, Social Work or Mass Communication.
Choose a second foreign language if
- You studied it in the first year (outside the total) and your level is good.
- You love languages and are thinking of Languages, Tourism or translation.
- You have patience for the memorising and practice any language needs.
