The Bachaloria Arts track: subjects and faculties

The Arts and Humanities track in the Egyptian Bachaloria: in the second year you choose Psychology or a second foreign language; in the third you study Geography (advanced) and Statistics. The faculties it leads to, and who it suits.

The short answer

Arts and Humanities is one of the four tracks you choose from when you move up to the second year of the Egyptian Bachaloria.

  • Second year: Arabic, first foreign language and History (for every track), plus one specialised subject you choose: Psychology or a second foreign language.
  • Third year: two specialised subjects: Geography (advanced) and Statistics.
  • Total: 600 marks: 400 from the second year and 200 from the third.

The subjects in detail

Second year (400 marks)

  • Arabic: 100
  • First foreign language: 100
  • History: 100
  • Psychology or a second foreign language: 100

Alongside them: Religious Education (pass or fail, 70% needed), Financial Culture (an activity) and Physical Education (practical). None of these count towards the total.

Third year (200 marks)

Geography (advanced) and Statistics, each out of 100.

Which faculties does it lead to?

According to the ministry, this track leads to the literary and theoretical faculties: Mass Communication, Law, Social Work, Languages, Tourism and Hotels, Fine Arts, Education, and technical institutes.

Admission itself goes through the national coordination office: by your total and your preferences, among the faculties linked to your track. Each faculty's exact conditions are announced by the coordination office, so check them when they are published.

Who does it suit?

  • You enjoy reading, writing, languages, history, geography and understanding people.
  • You are thinking of Mass Communication, Languages, Law, Education or Tourism.
  • You can express an idea in words, which is a real advantage because half of every exam is essay questions.

Tips if you choose it

  • Psychology or a second language in the second year? Compare them in Psychology or a second foreign language.
  • Statistics in the third year is a numbers subject. If Maths is not your strength, start preparing early.
