Advanced Biology and Chemistry: third-year Medicine track

In the third Bachaloria year, the Medicine and Life Sciences track's subjects are advanced Biology and advanced Chemistry, each out of 100. What "advanced" means, and how to prepare while you are still in the second year.

The short answer

A Medicine and Life Sciences student studies only two subjects in the total in the third Bachaloria year: advanced Biology and advanced Chemistry. Each is out of 100, making 200 of the 600 marks, and they are the whole of the third year's total.

What does "advanced" mean?

The ministry describes third-year study as more advanced and specialised, with deeper topics. It does not repeat the basics; it builds on them. That makes sense: these subjects prepare you for the faculties the track leads to: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Science, Physiotherapy and Veterinary Medicine.

When?

  • The first Bachaloria cohort reaches the third year in 2027/28.
  • Exams: June (first sitting) and August (second), and the best counts.
  • The detailed third-year curricula are announced by the ministry. We will write about them as soon as they are out.

How to prepare while you are in the second year

  • Biology and Chemistry are not in the second year on the Medicine track (the second year has Physics or Maths), so you meet them at an advanced level in the third.
  • Revise their basics from first-year Integrated Science, even an hour a week during the second year.
  • Second-year Chemistry on GoBachaloria is open to anyone, and the first five videos are free. Chemistry in the Bachaloria
  • The second-year total (400) is your base. Don't neglect second-year subjects to start the third year early.
