The short answer
In the Bachaloria, each subject has 100 assessment marks, of which 15 are for the student project. Those assessments count towards the 60% you must complete to sit the exam. The rule
What is the project?
Each project's topic and requirements are set by the subject teacher at school. At the start of term, ask about:
- The topic, or the options available.
- The format: a written report? A presentation? A model?
- The deadline and how to hand it in.
- How it is marked.
Five steps to do it well
- Find out what is required in the first week.
- Pick an idea you like within what is allowed. You will work on it better.
- Split it over weeks: a week for research, a week for writing or making, a week for checking.
- Write in your own words. Copying from the internet shows, and teaches you nothing.
- Hand it in two days early. Things happen.
Project ideas by subject
These are examples to think with; the official requirement comes from your teacher:
- History: an illustrated timeline of a period in the syllabus.
- Programming: a simple web page or a small data analysis. The Programming curriculum
- Psychology: a short survey of classmates and an analysis of the results.
- Accounting: a budget for an imaginary small business.
- Physics or Chemistry: a simple, safe experiment with a scientific explanation.
Why the project matters beyond its marks
It teaches you to research, write and manage your time, the same skills the essay exam asks for.
