The differences that actually matter

1. Subjects in the total

Bachaloria: six subjects over two years (four in the second year, two in the third).
Thanaweya Amma: more subjects; the ministry cited eleven.

2. Exam sittings

Bachaloria: two sittings a year, and the best mark counts. The first is free; the second costs 200 EGP per subject.
Thanaweya Amma: one sitting.

3. When the total starts

Bachaloria: from the second year (400 marks) and the third (200). The pressure is spread over two years.
Thanaweya Amma: from the third year only (320 marks). One year decides everything.

4. Specialisation

Bachaloria: four tracks chosen in the second year, with specialised subjects you pick.
Thanaweya Amma: Science, Maths, or Literary.

5. International accreditation

The Bachaloria is on a path to international accreditation after the memorandum with the International Baccalaureate Organization in February 2026. Details

Both lead to university through coordination, and the admission rules are the same for both systems.
